#METOO: WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE WORKPLACE

October 12, 2022

The amount of women coming forward to share their stories of sexual harassment, sex discrimination, and retaliation for complaining about sexual harassment/discrimination is amazing. I wholeheartedly support the #metoo movement. After representing victims of this deplorable conduct for almost twenty years, I am delighted to see that the culture of silence is beginning to end!

The list of men who have been accused continues to grow. (See NY Times Article below by SARAH ALMUKHTAR, LARRY BUCHANAN and MICHAEL GOLD dated November 15, 2017.)

These men are but a fraction of the men who have engaged in unlawful harassment.

Men need to be aware that this change in culture is going to grow. Therefore, all men, especially in the context of work, need to treat women with respect. Consensual work relationships are allowed, but they must be CONSENSUAL and must not create exposure for the business. This means that there should never be a supervisor subordinate relationship. If you find that you are one of the approximate 15% of Americans who meet their partner at work, make sure that you follow the policies set forth in your employee handbook.

Victims of sexual harassment should document the harassment, save any evidence (e-mails and text messages etc) and consult with an Employment Lawyer. We at OBeidy and Associates PA are happy to offer a free consultation to any person who believes they are being harassed or discriminated against at work. Please contact us at (305) 892-5454 and I promise I will listen, advise you as to the law and try my very best to help!
